Another aged pioneer of this valley has gone to her long reward, Mrs. Mary Frances Boren, widow of the late Beverly Boren, passing away last night at the family homestead in Sixth street, between A and B, at the advances age of 91 years, death having been preceded several days by a stroke of paralysis.
For 51 years, the decedent has resided in this valley, and has seen the surrounding region transformed from a wilderness into a thriving center of agriculture and trade, San Bernardino growing from a small pueblo, as she first knew it, to the modern thrifty city it is today.
All her life Mrs. Boren has been an active woman, though of late years she has been crippled from severe falls, and on Monday, November 6, suffered a severe stroke of paralysis, which, though it made her bedfast, did not impair her mind, which remained clear to the last.
She is survived by one daughter and five sons, who are: Mrs. (Marietta) W. A. (William Alvah) Downey, of San Bernardino; H. L. (Hiram Luther) Boren, William Boren, of San Bernardino; E. D. (Ephraim Darius) Boren, a Mojave river rancher; B. C. (Beverly Collins Jr.) and G. A. (George Alley) Boren, who reside at the Sixth street home.
Mrs. Mary Frances Boren was born in Louisville, Kentucky, May 10, 1814, and crossed the plains with an ox team in 1852. Two years later she arrived in this valley, where she has resided ever since, and was the widow of the late Beverly C. Boren. Last Saturday, the deceased was admitted to membership in the Pioneer society, her wish of long standing being thus gratified.
Arrangements for the funeral will be perfected today, being held in abeyance on account of the absence on the desert of her son, H. L. (Hiram Luther) Boren, who is a miner. The expectation is that the services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow.
