Son of Capt. John Blakemore and Ann Tomlin.

He married Elizabeth "Betsey" Bashaw on September 19, 1785 in Fauquier Co., VA., daughter of James Bashaw and Francis Taylor.

On April 19, 1780, he was recommended for appointment as ensign of militia by the County Court of Washington County, Virginia. On March 21, 1782, he was recommended to be Lieut. of Militia. On June 18, 1782, he was a bondsman for Elizabeth Blackmore and Josiah Payne as administrators of the estate of John Blackmore. He was on the same date appointed an appraiser of the estate of Matthew Moss, deceased, and of the estate of Joshua Butcher, Sr., deceased. On September 19, 1782, it was certified that he had furnished the Armed Services 9 bushels of corn at 18 shillings and 30 pounds of dried beef at 10 shillings. He was an Ensign of Militia at the Battle of Kings Mountain.
