Dorothy Williams Ray Britt, age 84, of Minter City, MS passed away on Friday January 08, 2016 at the Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland.
Visitation will be held Sunday January 10, 2016 from 5:00 PM to7:00 PM at the Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday January 11, 2016 in the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville, MS. Reverend Robert Rawson will officiate the service.
Dorothy affectionately known as "Granny" was born on March 29, 1931 to Oscar C. and Laura (O'Brian) Williams in Maben, MS. She moved to Ruleville, MS early in life. She graduated from Ruleville High School. Dorothy married John Starnes Ray in 1949. She had worked as a secretary for North Sunflower Academy from its inception until her retirement in 1982. In 1985 she married Arwood Britt, Sr. Dorothy was a member of the Ruleville Church of Christ. Dorothy was a wonderful cook, an avid reader and an expert fisher-woman.
She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Laura Williams, husbands John Starnes Ray and Arwood Britt, Sr., brother Sonny Williams and a sister Barbara "Nell" Gatlin.
Dorothy is survived by Daughter, Cindy Ray (Dr. Michael) Massey of Anchorage, AK. Daughter, Nancy Ray (Mickey) Sellers of Gunnison, MS. Sister, Sylvia (Charles) Rigsby of Watertown, TN. Brother, Bill (Becky) Williams of Ripley, TN. Step-daughter, Ellen Britt Lamb of Brandon, MS. Step-daughter, Cookie Britt (Billy) Harper of Meridian, MS. Step-son, Arwood (Patty) Britt, Jr. of Malena, GA. Grandchildren; John (Jesseca) Sellers, Steven (Alicia) Sellers, Molly Massey (Phillip) VanderWeit, Patrick Massey, Lisa (Rob) Shaw and Michael Massey, II. Great grandchildren; Sophia Kate Sellers, Jordan Sellers, Henry Shaw and Harrison Shaw. 9 step-grandchildren and 14 great step-grandchildren. She also leaves her beloved canine companion "Pup" and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Mickey Sellers, Michael Massey, John Sellers, Steven Sellers, Joe Glen Sellers and Will Rooker. Honorary pallbearer is Eddie Parrish.
