She was a 1938 graduate of Nazareth Academy and received her Cosmetology license from Alamo Beauty School in San Antonio, Texas in 1940. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she was a lector and Eucharistic Minister, also a member of the St. Mary's Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of America. She was a 4-H Leader in Victoria and Dewitt counties and was named outstanding 4-H leader in Victoria County and an ardent supporter of the Victoria Livestock Show where she served as Assistant Swine Superintendent under her husband.
Survivors include her son, Bill Obsta (Kim); sister-in-law, Evelyn Schlein; grandchildren, Gordon Wendel (Jean), Jason Wendel (Michelle), Molly Meyer, Will Obsta, and Megan Obsta; and great grandchildren, Rian Katie, Matti, Kerilyn and Brooke Wendel; and Mason and Madison Meyer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis of 59 years and the accidental death of their daughter Karen Wendel, "Katie" as she was affectionately called; her son-in-law, Talbert Wendel; sisters, Alice Atzenhoffer and Ruby Dial; brothers, Jake and Earl Schlein.
A visitation will be held from 6 -7 pm, Friday, January 8, 2016 at Colonial Funeral Home followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, January 9, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Dominic Antwi-Boasako officiating. Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Billy Atzenhoffer, Robert Schaar, David Ralls, Robert Schaar, Chris Crain, John and Will Malek.
