Dr. Espinosa was Espanola's second mayor, was a state senator for several years, served 20 years on the Espanola school board and for 20 years held a seat on the state board of medical examiners.
In 1954, he was honored as the state’s general practitioner of the year by the New Mexico Medical Society.
Born on Jan 2, 1879 in Del Norte, Colorado, he was the oldest of 13 children of Celso and Ralaela Espinosa. He was graduated from the University of Colorado Medical School in 1902 and came to Albuquerque in 1903. From 1904 to 1909, he served as a Navy physician, returned to Albuquerque in 1912, and moved to Belen in 1914 where he practiced until 1927.
He began practice in Espanola in 1927.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Felicitas Espinosa, Albuquerque ; a grandson, Robert Zimmerman, Albuquerque ; five sisters, Mrs. Dennis Chavez, widow of the late Sen. Dennis Chavez, Mrs. Rosalina E. Kerr of Washington D.C., Mrs. Karner Blythe and Miss Carman Espinosa of Albuquerque , Mrs. Joseph Brazil of Santa Fe; and four brothers, Gilbert Espinosa of Albuquerque , Dr Jose E. Espinosa of Detroit, Luis Espinosa of Albuquerque and Ernest Espinosa of Washington D.C..
