Will: "In the name of God, Amen, I, Andrew Koonts of the County of Davidson and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitor of life, do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament, that is to say, Firstly, after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged the residue of my estate real and personal, I give, bequeath and dispose of as follows, to wit: To my son, Samuel the land and appurtenances situated thereon where he now lives, also one acre and half meadow joining my son Philip's as hereafter discribed a line to commence at the upper corner of my son Philip's field on Helmstetter's line, thence to run N. down to where the branch enters into the ditch, thence down the ditch to a large poplar, thence North again to the other ditch, thence up the ditch to Philips line. I want a line commencing where the first line strikes the ditch to run thence to the spring, thence to a cherry tree at the Brick yard, thence West to the upper corner of the orchard, thence South across the branch, thence West up to the road to an old pair of bars, thence South to Godfrey Gobble's line. I will and bequeath to my son Philip the plantation on which he now resides, and appertenances thereon. To my son, John, the Farm where he now resides according to the lines as above described. Samuel to have one acre and a half of meadow joining Philip's as above mentioned and John three acres joining Samuel's. To my son, Jacob, I give and bequeath one half of my lands lying on the Yadkin River known as my river bottom, the line to start at the river and run thence through the hills to other line, the portion lying down the river to belong to my son, Jacob. Also Thirty Bu. of wheat, one breeding sow and six shoats, and two sheep, and two other choice hogs, and Forty Bu. corn. I give bequeath to the children of my son, Andrew, dec. my grand-children, that part of my River-bottom farm which lies up the river when divided as above stated to be equally divided between them, share and share alike, provided the widow of my son Andrew, is to have a living on the same so long as she remains his widow, keeping his name. My son, Ezekiel, has already received two hundred and twenty dollars, which is to be taken into consideration and he is to receive in money the amount to make him equal with the rest of my sons when their lands have been valued.

To my Grand Children, the Children of my daughter, Melinda, I will and bequeath in money the amount to make them equal with my other heirs. To my daugher, Priscilla, I will and bequeath my Homestead lands and appertenances situated thereon, according to the lines above described. Also she shall have choice out of the two Black women, Susan and Emily, also one breeding sow, six or seven shoats. Also two sheep, two choice hogs and fifty bushels of corn. My corner cupboard, the table and beds she now claims. One large wash pot, 2 small pots, two sets plates, one set knives and forks, two sets teacups and saucers, six bowls, six tumblers, and thirty bushels of wheat. Also all my geese that I have, and two choice milch-cows. I don't want any of my Negroes to be sold, but Commissioners shall value them and they shall be divided equal between my heirs, share and share alike.

My River bottom known as the Island, shall be sold, all the rest, residue and remainder of my real and personal estate not herein bequeathed to be exposed to public sale. Commissioners shall value the land above bequeathed, also the negroes so that the division be equal between my heirs that they share and share alike.

Likewise, I appoint my said sons, Samuel, Philip, Ezekiel, John and Jacob, to be my Executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former will by me made.

In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal the Twenty first day of August, in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty Two. his Andrew X Koontz mark The above written instrument was subscribed by the said Andrew Koontz in our presence and acknowledged by him to each of us, and he at the same time published and declard the above instrument so subscribed to be his last will and testament.
