Richard Leon Peterson ‘Pete’ of Waterford, Vermont was the son of Charles and Louise (Holeva) Peterson.

Richard grew up in Pennsylvania and at the age of eighteen he joined the Navy and served from 1963-1969. While in the Navy he served on a nuclear submarine during the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Vietnam Service medal and a National Defense Service medal.

He is survived by his wife Elaine of thirty-three years, son Edward Charles Peterson of Salem CT, and daughter Bobbi-Anne Ward of Ivoryton CT. He is also survived by four step-children: Susan Brady of North Stonington CT, Robert Sanford of Essex CT, William Sanford of Naugatuck CT, and Sherry Lefebvre of New Zealand. Three siblings Dave and Millard Peterson and Gladys Furman.

He was preceded in death by a son Ronald Peterson; four siblings Ray, Bob and Don Peterson and Helen Kaminski.
