Peter served as Drummer Boy during the War of 1812, later on was a prominent merchant and farmer in Bedford, Bedford County, PA. He removed to live in Fayette County, PA in 1856 and remained until March 1861, when they came west and settled in Urbana, Champaign County, IL. He was a strong Union man and during the war recruited nearly the entire 51 st Illinois Regiment. Peter then purchased a half-section of land near Homer, Champaign County and devoted his life to agricultural pursuits. He 74 and Eliza 68 were both living with their son Reuben in the 1880 census in Ogden, Champaign, IL. The Gazette (Urbana Local Items)
of 27 Sep 1882, reads died yesterday and funeral will occur today. The Champaign County Herald of Wednesday 27 Sep 1882 reads died at his farm near St. Joseph , Sunday night and his remains will be brought to the city today for interment. Sunday would have been the 24th.
