CANTON - Elma Buchanan Thompson, 79, of Arbutus, Md., formerly of Canton, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1995, in Baltimore, Md.

A native of Swain County, she was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church, Candler, where she had served as church librarian and hostess. She was the daughter of the late Silas and Ella Mae Headen Buchanan and wife of J. Frank Thompson, who died in 1987.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Alderson of Baltimore, Md., daughter of Canton; sons, Bruce K. Thompson of Baltimore, Md., son of Dothan, Ala.; brothers, Earl E. and Toby R. Buchanan of Gastonia, J.C. Buchanan of Maryland, of Valdosta, Ga.; sisters, Pauline Mauney and Irene Ray of Kings Mountain; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Ambrose Funeral Home, Baltimore, Md., and at 2 p.m., Saturday at Ridgeway Baptist Church, Candler, with the Rev. Jack Collins officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the library of Ridgeway Baptist Church.

Wells Funeral Home, Canton, is in charge of arrangements.
