Darlene was born on July 11, 1930 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota the daughter of William and Martha Christianson. She was raised and educated in Vermillion, South Dakota. Darlene was united in marriage on June 16, 1949 to Enoch Bakken in Vermillion. They made their home in rural Audubon, Minnesota. She stayed at home to raise their children and sold Avon for many years, she later worked at Savioe Cleaners.
Darlene was a member of Assembly of God Church in Detroit Lakes. She enjoyed baking, cooking and canning. Darlene was known especially for her flat bread and Christmas cookies.
She also enjoyed puzzles, scrabble and bird watching.
Darlene cherished time spent with her family. She had a love for babies, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Darlene is survived by her two sons, Steve (Karen) Bakken and Paul (Char) Bakken; four daughters, Linda Somerville, Sharlene McIlwain, Deanna (Tim) Schons, and Lisa Small; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Enoch (2013), one grandson, Joey Bakken; two great grandchildren, Reese and Hudsyn Larson; twin sister, Eileen Donahue and sister, Lorraine Ruring.
Funeral Services: Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery, Audubon, MN.
