Lyle R. Goodman, 96, formerly of Eldred, PA, went home to be with the Lord on December 7, 2015, at Seasons Hospice, with his family by his side.
He was born November 5, 1919, in Oil City, PA, to Ralph and Lettie Mae (Beery) Goodman. A longtime resident of Eldred, he attended the Eldred High School. On May 26, 1946, in the Eldred United Methodist Church, he married Arlene (Frisbee) Goodman, who passed away in 2010. In 2000, they established residence at LSSI in Aurora, Illinois to be closer to family.
After high school, he worked on the Lawrence oil leases.
When he was 22, he joined the US Army and served with the 15th Field Artillery Observation Battalion and fought in World War II in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign including Anzio, Italy where he received a field commission as Master Sargent.
He returned to Eldred after WWII, and was employed in the oil fields in the Eldred area. He later was employed as an insurance adjuster for various insurance agencies for over 40 years.
While in Eldred, he was a member of the Eldred Borough Town Council for many years.
He was a devoted Member of the Lighthouse Community Free Methodist Church of Eldred and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Aurora, Illinois. Lyle’s faith and family were first and foremost in his life. Whether it was sitting at a coffee shop with his son, Dana, or just talking with friends and family, his love for the Lord was evident. Strangers were always greeted by Lyle with a welcoming smile and an unspoken acknowledgement that everyone deserved to be recognized.
Surviving are three sons, Dana Goodman and his wife Laura of Aurora, Illinois; Robert Goodman and his wife Pamela of Exeter, New Hampshire and William Goodman and his wife Susan of Lawrenceville, Georgia; 8 grandchildren, Scott, Kim, Matthew, Sarah, Andrew and Nicholas Goodman and Colby and Taylor Fortier; 6 great grandchildren and expecting the arrival of his seventh great grandchild. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Ronald and three sisters, Jane Bailey, Dorothy Giardini and Arlene Scheiterle.
