Born June 11, 1914, in Seneca, he was a son of Ralph and Lettie Mae Berry Goodman. On May 25, 1936, in the Portville (NY) Methodist Church, he married Louise Goodell, who passed away Feb. 23, 2007.

Mr. Goodman attended Reed's School in Venango County and had resided in McCrea Brook for more than 70 years.

He worked in local oil fields for more than 20 years and later was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad as an operator until retiring in 1976. Also for many years, he and his wife owned and operated the McCrea Brook Poultry Farm, retiring from that in 1978.

Mr. Goodman was a 65-year member of the McCrea Brook Wesleyan Church where he served as trustee, was on the church board and helped build the church. He was a good Christian and loved his Lord and his church.

After retirement, he and Louise traveled across the United State and spent 19 winters in Rio Grand Valley, Texas, where he was active in the Rio Hondo Baptist Church. He also spent many summers fishing in Moffet, Quebec, Canada, with his wife, children and grandchildren. In addition, he enjoyed gardening and hunting.

Surviving are a son, Gene (Louise) Shivley of Eldred; three daughters, Dawn (Merle) Gustin and Janice (Boyd) Palmer, both of Eldred, and Sharon (William) Hemphill of Shinglehouse; 16 grandchildren; many great, great-great- and great-great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lyle (Arlene) Goodman of Aurora, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Goodman; and three sisters, Jane Bailey, Dorothy Giardini and Arlene Scheiterle.
