James Waters Campbell, 79, died July 20 in the Community hospital in Crosby. He and Mrs. Campbell were visiting at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Judge and Mrs. E.G. Anderson of Crosby when Mr. Campbell was taken ill July 5.

Mr. Campbell was born in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, on February 4, 1869, the son of Engelson[sic] and Rebecca Waters Campbell. He spent most of his youth in Toronto, Canada, and came to East St. Cloud in 1895. At that time he started a small bakery on Wilson avenue northeast. In 1918 he built a large bakery building on East St. Germain street and continued in business in that location until 1945 when he retired.

Mr. Campbell served two terms on the St. Cloud board of education, elected in about 1919 and continuing in office until about 1925.

Mr. Campbell was married on November 16, 1898, at Sauk Rapids to Lorinda Orton who survives with three children - Mrs. E. G. Anderson (Alta) of Crosby; Mrs. L. L. Palmer (Vira) of Pipestone; and Harold J. Campbell of St. Cloud. One son died in infancy. There are seven grandchildren.

Mr. Campbell was a member of North Star lodge. The body will lie in state at the First Methodist church on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Methodist church of which Mr. Campbell had been a member for 53 years. Masonic services will be conducted by North Star lodge AF and AM in the cemetery at Sauk Rapids. The lodge will open at 1:30 p.m.
