John I. Butler, 87, Star City Resident

Star City -

John Iverson Butler, 87, died at his home near here Wednesday afternoon following a lengthy illness.

A lifelong resident of Lincoln County, he was born April 23, 1874, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Butler.

He was married in 1895 to the former Mollie McCarty.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Southside Baptist Church of Star City.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Travis and Fred Butler of Star City and John Butler of Los Angeles, Cal.; three daughters, Mrs. Allie Whitten and Mrs Ruth Marble of Star City and Mrs. Ila Fritz of Temple, Tex.; one brother, Virgil Butler of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Mrs. Tom O'Neal and Mrs. Estelle Clary of Star City; two half brothers, Bruce Butler of Louisiana and Grover Butler of Oregon; three half sisters, Mrs. Joe Womack, Mrs. Clyde Fish and Mrs. Emma Copeland of Star City; 29 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 4 p. m. today at Southside Baptist Church by Elder V. O. Glover and Rev. John Miles.
Burial was in Hickory Grove Cemetery by Buie Funeral Home of Star City.

The following grandsons will serve as pallbearers; Edward Whitten, Easel Whitten, Floyd Bailey, Carol Bailey, Vance Butler and Ralph Postal.
