Evelyn lived all of her life in Muncie and graduated from Muncie Central High School with the class of 1935. She had a long working career. Her jobs included: H&L Greene Five and Dime Store, assistant manager, Acme Lees, head of the filing department, and Ball State, serving as the custodial supervisor of dorms until her retirement after 15 years of service.
Evelyn was a member of Full Gospel Temple and the Ball State Sympathy Club. She enjoyed cooking and Divinity Fudge was her specialty, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and working crossword puzzle. Evelyn also liked spending summer weekends in Michigan with her husband, family and friends. She and her husband took many vacation trips, with the favorite being a trip to the "Holy Land."
Evelyn is survived by her sister, Phyllis Davis; sister-in-law, Hessie Smith (husband-Leonard); several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Cook, who passed away in 2007; parents, Eddie F. and Blanche S. Gribble; three brothers and their wives, Wayne (Vera), Ralph (Pauline), and Ray (Eileen) Gribble; in-laws, Floyd R. Davis and Jessie and Boyd Jennings; nieces, Bonnie LaValle, and Merretta McDaniel; nephews, Nyles Gribble, Ralph G. Gribble, Ray Neal Gribble (killed in Vietnam), and Russell Harris.
The family would like to thank The Waters of Muncie and their staff in addition to Heart to Heart Hospice for the kind, tender and loving care they gave her.
Funeral services will be at Elm Ridge Memorial Park North Chapel Mausoleum, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie, on Saturday at 3 p.m. with Pastor Denny Helton officiating. Visitation will be at Elm Ridge Memorial Park Mausoleum following the service.
