In the death of Mr. Adam Yerk is recognized the loss of one of the oldest and most respected citizens of this community. Mr. Yerk died at his home, 703 Mascoutah Avenue, Monday morning at 12:30 o'clock.
The deceased was born October 16, 1833 in Semm, Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany. He came to this country in 1853 and located in this city. He was a cooper and was employed 18 years by the Reuss Mills and 8 years by the Crown Mills.
On September 12, 1857, he was married to Miss Katherine Klaus. Twelve children were born to them, of whom nine are left to mourn his death: Mrs. Anna Dressler of Summerfield; Mrs. Katie Albrecht of St. Louis; Mrs. Margareta Frey of Summerfield; Mrs. Bertha Boerner; Messrs. Henry, George, Gustav, William and Arthur Yerk of Belleville. Besides these he leaves two sisters: Mrs. Fredericke Schnipper of the West End and Mrs. Elizabeth Wetzel who resides 6 miles east of this city; and one brother, Mr. Henry Yerk of the West End.
The deceased was a member of the Ancient Order of Druids.
The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock to the Walnut Hill Cemetery. Rev. William Weber officiated.
