Maude was the 4th child of: James Henry Owen and Sarah Ellen Skinner Owen.

She was born and raised in Lamar, Barton County, Missouri on his father's farm.

She was a Sister to: Jesse A., William Francis, Clarence Elmer, Lola Owen Raper and Roy B. Owen.

She married Roy Ellsworth Smith, Jul. 20, 1908 in Lamar, Missouri.

She had the following eight children:
Evelyn Marie Smith Smith,
Martha "Florence" Smith Dishman,
Harvey Louis Smith,
A Baby girl who died at 21 days,
Roy Ellsworth Smith, Jr.,
Thelma Louise Smith Shelley,
Lawrence Edward Smith and
Barbara Jean Smith Salvati.

Maude was a wonderful, loving and generous woman with many talents. She raised her children to be loving and generous people too.

From about 1913 till 1935 she and her family was back and forth from Lamar, Missouri to Southern California many times, sometimes even yearly. The family finally settled into the Ontario area in 1934. Maude's first child was born when she was 20 years old and her last child when she was 46.

She was the family peacemaker and one of the gentlest souls, she never raised a hand to anyone or anything.

Great Grandma was well known for her potato salad and always had oatmeal cookies for the Grand Children and Great Grandchildren. And there was a never ending supply of Iced Tea and Lemon Aid.

She raised chicken's in the back of the yard for extra spending money and she could quilt some of the nicest quilts for her family. She made one for her first Grandson, Harlin. A gray alphabet quilt that had the most striking details, eyelashes on the elephant and tusks too.
She always smelled of talcum powder and flowers. She never turned down the chance to hold a little one in her lap for hugs and attention. She really listened when you talked to her too. Great-Grandma Maude was with us till the age of 81.

She left to mourn her passing all seven of her children and many Grandchildren and Now Great Grandchildren.
