Roy was the 4th Son of Louis F. Smith and Martha Susan Rogers Smith. He was born and raised in Lamar, Barton County, Missouri on his father's farm.

Roy was the Grandson of:
Benjamin Robert and Mary McCart Smith.
Thomas and Martha Sutton Rogers.

He had four siblings:
John F.,
Thomas B.,
Claud and
Elsie May Felkner Gordon Gavaldon.

He married Maude Lee Owen, July 20, 1908 in Lamar, Missouri.

From his Registration Card for the Draft we have this physical description. He was Tall in height, of Medium build, with Blue eyes and Brown hair. He had one stiff ankle and a deformed foot. He also says he was born Nov. 14, 1885. He was working as a Farmer for himself in Lamar, Barton Co., Missouri, but he and his family are living in Pittsburg, Crawford Co., Kansas, where he registered on September 12, 1918.

Great Grandpa Roy was a man of many jobs. He did some farming, sold cars and then men's clothing over the years. From about 1913 till 1935 he and his family was back and forth from Lamar, Missouri to Southern California many times, sometimes even yearly. He finally settled into the Ontario area and for the most part made his living selling men's clothing in Department stores and groceries. He was very much a man's man and never was truly happy unless he was busy. He taught all of his children and some of his Grandchildren to drive a car. And all of his children have done very well in life.

His children were:
Evelyn Marie Smith Smith,
Martha "Florence" Smith Dishman,
Harvey Louis Smith,
A Baby girl who died at 21 days,
Roy Ellsworth Smith, Jr.,
Thelma Louise Smith Shelley,
Lawrence Edward Smith and
Barbara Jean Smith Salvati.

And now many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
