Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Wednesday, April 26, 1961, page 2:
  Mrs. Josephine Ontko, 58, of Edwardsville Route 4, Glen Crossing, died early this morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville apparently of a heart attack.
  A requiem mass will be said at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Cecilia Catholic church, Glen Carbon, followed by interment in the Buck Rd. cemetery.  The Rev. Paul Hebenstreit will officiate. Friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening at the Lesley Marks funeral home, where the rosary will be recited Thursday at 8 o'clock.
  A Glen Crossing resident about 35 years, she was born July 6, 1902 in Czechoslovakia, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Sedlacek Slemmer. She was married to Steve Ontko about 42 years ago at St. Mary's Catholic church, Edwardsville. Mr. Ontko died April 5, 1951.
  Survivors are four children: Steve Ontko of Edwardsville, Carl L. Ontko and Mrs. Robert J. (Alvina) Sedlacek, both of Glen Crossing, and Mrs. Thomas (Margaret) Noeth, Granite City; a brother and five sisters, Frank Slemmer, Mrs. Rudolph (Anna) Baca and Mrs. Jerry (Mildred) Matisek of St. Louis, Mrs. Ronald (Barbara) Gerling, Mrs. William (Rose) Burian and Mrs. Crawford (Helen) Allen, Edwardsville; and eight grandchildren.
  Mrs. Ontko was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Shimunek and Mrs. Lena Sickbert.
  She was a member of the Altar Society of St. Cecilia's church, the SVF of Glen Crossing and CSA lodge, Edwardsville.
