Son and first child of John Howard Baskette and wife, Matilda K. DuVal. Due to disruption of the Civil War, the family migrated from Mississippi to Kentucky and eventually to Nashville, Tennessee.

W. H. Baskette married Lena Rivers Copeland on 11 Apr 1878, in Davidson County, Tennessee. They were parents of Frank E., Edith (m1 Mulheron, m2 Farnsworth), and Lallah Maud (m Patterson) Baskette, who survived to adulthood.

Two other children--Willie Gwin and Albert Lee Baskette--for whom there are few or no definitive records are buried in the Baskette-DuVal family plot at Mt Olivet in Nashville. From available information on the Baskette-DuVal family, they are presumed to be Dr. and Mrs. Baskette's children as well.

After the death of Lena Copeland Baskette at their son Frank's residence in California, Dr. Baskette married Sophronia Hargrove on 25 Jan 1906, in Williamson County, Tennessee. Their marriage license lists her as "Sophronia Shires."

The family of the second Mrs. Baskette were long-time residents of Williamson County, and the couple appear to have joined them there, possibly to help care for Mrs. Baskette's aging mother. Mrs. Baskette's niece Idoline and nephew Alexander, children of her brother George W. Hargrove, were enumerated in the Baskette household in 1910.

No cause of death was given in Dr. Baskette's death notice. He is buried in the small, Sweeney cemetery between Boston and Leiper's Fork with his second wife, her parents, and at least two of her siblings.
