Mrs. Joyce Siemonsma, age 75, of Alton, passed away on Thursday, June 9, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

There will be a memorial service on Monday, June 13, at 7:00pm, at the Alton Reformed Church in Alton. The Rev. Michael Hardeman and the Rev. Elizabeth Hardeman will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery, near Alton. Visitation will be after 6:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Joyce Marie was born on April 11, 1930, in Maurice, the daughter of Garrett and Margaret (Popma) Wichers. She was raised at Maurice, where she graduated from high school.

On August 28, 1953, she married Jake John Siemonsma at Maurice. They lived at Newkirk for five years and then moved into Alton, where they have since made their home. She was a homemaker and was also employed at Harkers, later called Tysons, in Orange City.

Mrs. Siemonsma was a member of the Alton Reformed Church, where she sang in the choir and served on the flower committee. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She liked to fly and was a pilot in earlier years. Her family was very important to her, and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years; four children, Jimmy Jay Siemonsma, of Matlock; Benton Odin Siemonsma, and his wife, Darla, of Sioux Center; Laura Lea, and her husband, Terry Sitzmann, of Orange City; and Perry Patrick Siemonsma, and his wife, Lola, of Alton; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and seven brothers and three sisters, Marlin Wichers, of Orange City; Russell Wichers, of Sioux Center; Myron Wichers, of Vancouver, Washington; Donald Wichers, of Redwood Falls, Minnesota; Allen Wichers, of Maurice; Betty Pott, of Parkersburg; Leon Wichers, of Sioux Center; Lola Heys, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Robert Wichers, of Orange City; and Alma Engeltjes, of Orange City.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Doreen Mars; and a sister, Irene Zublis.

Memorials will be directed to the church.
