William Blake "Bill" Allen II, 87, passed away peacefully at home in Greenfield, MA on October 3, 2015. Bill was born in Greenfield on January 20, 1928. He was the son of Charles H. and Roxana (Spooner) Allen. Bill's grandfather, the first William Blake Allen, owned Henry & Allen, an early local grocery store, and also served as Town Treasurer for 40 years, co-founded and served as President of the Greenfield Co-operative Bank for 27 years, and was President of the Greenfield Savings Bank for almost a decade.

Bill attended Greenfield Public Schools, Deerfield Academy and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. He spent 27 years in the US Navy and US Naval Reserve and served as the Commanding Officer of the Seabees Brockton Unit, the Springfield Seabees Unit and the 7th Naval Construction Regiment.

He married Joanne Purcell (now Joanne Flynn of Essex Junction, VT) September 1962 in Greenfield, MA, where they raised 4 children.

Bill served Franklin County in many ways. He was a Selectman in Greenfield, he served as a Licensing Commissioner, was a Franklin County Engineer, a member of the Franklin Regional Council of Government, and a member of the Greenfield Charter Commission. He also served as the Mayor of Greenfield's representative on the Franklin Regional Transit Authority, was a member of the Franklin Regional Planning Board, and served as Greenfield's representative on the Route 2 Taskforce. He was a Director at Green River Cemetery for more than 40 years and President of the High Street Cemetery Association for more than 20 years. He served on the Board of Directors for Camp Wiyaka in New Hampshire and was past President of the Crown Point Road Association in Vermont.

Bill was an active Mason from 1951 until the time of his death. He was a member of the Amherst Chapter of Royal Arch Masons and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and member of the Blue Lodge in Greenfield. He was also a member of the Arcana Chapter 59, Order of the Eastern Star.

Bill is survived by his four children, 7 grandchildren, a sister, six nieces and nephews and their spouses, plus ten grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his companion for the last 25 years, Linda C. Marlowe, who died in July 2014.

A Celebration of Life and Rite of Christian Burial for Bill will be held at St. James' Episcopal Church, corner of Church and Federal Streets, Greenfield, MA at 2:00 PM on Friday October 9, 2015, with Rev. Heather J. Blais officiating. Interment with military honors will be at the Green River Cemetery immediately following the service.
