[His year of birth is an estimate. It is used to distinquish him from his father and his son of the same name. People keep trying to link these early settlers to memorials with Unknown Burial- which have been prohibited by Findagrave. Some people are trying to add his mother's maiden name as his middle name, and other descendants want such middle names deleted. I only check back here every month or so, so I can't stop the automatic edits that sometimes go through.]

Herman was the son of Herman Long and Anna Hershey. He died in Donegal. Herman (SR) is listed as Anna Hersche's husband in wills and land deeds. Their son Herman (JR) is listed in his father's Will.

His father Herman owned considerable land in Hempfield Township, originally settling there in 1727. His Will was probated in Lancaster County Orphans Court on June 2, 1773. All of Herman's property was divided by his son Christian Long. It names his living children as Christian, Addah, Ann, Catharine, Maria, Magdalena, Herman, Esther, John, Barbara, Susannah, and Fronica.

Herman (JR) was married to Feronica Kauffman, daughter of Christian and Elizabeth Kauffman. She was his second wife. His first wife was Miss Coble (died in 1778). He married his third wife Elizabeth Gearinger on April 28 1798. She was a widow with two children of her own.

Herman purchased 469 acres from William and Elizabeth Smith. The homestead was located north of the road from Maytown to Bainbridge in Donegal. Their house was still standing in 1948.

Contributor Shaun Creighton (49577013), a direct descendant through Herman's son Abraham, states that this Herman is listed by the Daughters of the American Revolution as a Patriot of the Revolutionary War. His DAR Patriot #A071247.

[Burial location is from the research of Christopher W. Lane and Vernon A. Stehman.]

NOT- Regardless of what several attached memorials state, he was NOT married to Anna Hershey. His mother was Anna Hershey. T?his link is improper and erroneous.
