Marine Lance Cpl. Long was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, California. Long was killed while conducting combat operations. Jeremy attended Robert Mitchell Elementary School, Billinghurst Middle School and Spanish Springs High School from where he graduated in 2005. He played football all four years in high school and also was a member of the wrestling, swimming and track teams. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing video games, fishing and riding his bike. He loved watching television (especially wrestling) and joking around with everyone (his favorite saying was "Your Mom."). Jeremy was remembered as someone who was very determined and never gave up. He was smaller in size but made up for it in his determination. While a freshman, he broke his arm but as soon as his doctor told him it was safe to play again, he was back practicing with the football team. He had quite a few injuries but he never let them stop him. After graduation, he was very excited and proud to be a Marine. He visited with his teachers and coaches in early 2006 before he was deployed to Iraq in February. Jeremy was very reliable and respected by all and often called the "nicest guy in the world." The highlight of being in Iraq for him was meeting Toby Keith and President Bush. His sense of humor and kind-heartedness were unrivaled, but they were often hidden by his shy nature. Around people he didn't know, you'd be lucky to hear ten words, but once you got to know him, he was one funny guy. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment ribbon. I will end Jeremy's bio by letting him tell you about himself – this appeared on his web page.
