I believe Elizabeth to be the daughter of Samuel Strawser VanBlaricom and Harriet Jane Barker (though Elizabeth's death certificate notes her mother's name as Rebecca.) I found seven children for the couple, but there may have been others—Isaac (circa 1865), Andrew (circa 1866), David/Franklin (circa 1868), William (circa 1869), Elizabeth (1870), Maggie (circa 1872), and Lavina E. (circa 1875).

I found Elizabeth's parents and older siblings on the 1870 Census, living in Fulton, Liberty Township, Fulton Co., Indiana. Samuel VanBlaricom, aged 41, was engaged in farming. Harriet (Chariette on the record), aged 30, was home with their four young sons—Isaac, aged 5, Andrew, aged 4, David, aged 2, and William, aged 1.

Elizabeth first appeared with her family on the 1880 Census. They were still living on the family farm in Liberty Township in Fulton County. Samuel, aged 53, was busy with farm chores. Harriet, aged 42, was keeping house and tending to the needs of five children—Isaac, aged 15, Franklin (aka David), aged 12, Lizzie (aka Elizabeth), aged 9, Maggie, aged 8, and Lavina, aged 5. Sons Andrew and William, who would have been only 14 and 11 years old, were conspicuously absent.

On 2 Nov 1887, Elizabeth married first-husband William A. Reed in Fulton Co., Indiana. Sadly, their happiness would have been short-lived as William died the following year on 25 Feb 1888 at age 24. They did not have any children together.

Elizabeth married second-husband Jefferson A. Croy on 17 Aug 1896 in Fulton Co., Indiana. Jefferson was the son of Henry A Croy and Martha Wyatt. It was also a second marriage for Jefferson. He had previously married Sarah Ann Leiter on 29 Dec 1872 and had nine children with her--Martha (b.circa 1874), Dora A. (b.circa 1878), William Henry (b.1879), Arthur Judson (1887), Claude Clifford (b.1890), and four unidentified children. Elizabeth and Jefferson would have five children of their own together—Myrtle (circa 1898), Howard C. (3 May 1901 Marion Co., IN), Mabel Fay (circa 1904), Charles J. (20 May 1908), and Ivan F. (8 Sep 1910 Plymouth, Marshall IN).

Search as I might, I could not find the family on the 1900 Census. They popped up on the 1910 Census, living at 308 E. LaPorte St. in Plymouth, Marshall Co., Indiana. Jefferson, aged 58, was laboring at odd jobs. Elizabeth, aged 38, reported that she had had four children, and that all four had survived to that census. There with their parents were Myrtle, aged 12, Howard, aged 8, Fay, aged 6, and Charles, aged 1 year 10 months. That census was enumerated on 25 Apr 1910 when Elizabeth was four months pregnant with son Ivan, born that fall on September 8th.

By the 1920 Census, the family had moved about an hour northeast to Lincoln Township, St. Joseph Co., Indiana. Jefferson, aged 68, was farming. Elizabeth, aged 48, was keeping house. Still living at home with their parents were Howard, aged 18 and working in a saw mill, Mabel, aged 16, Charles, aged 11, and Ivan, aged 9. Eldest daughter Myrtle must have married.

Just before the next census, Jefferson died in 1929. Elizabeth appeared without him on the 1930 Census, widowed, aged 58, living at 212 Conger St. in Hartford City, Blackford Co., Indiana. Head of household was son Howard Croy, aged 28 and working as a sawyer for an overhead door company. With him were wife Thelma, aged 22, and children Nilah, aged 5, Kenneth, aged 4, and Herman, aged 1 year 7 months. Elizabeth was working as a cook in a restaurant.

Elizabeth was still living in Hartford City in 1935, but by 1940, she had moved back to Plymouth and was living on Alexander St. with her brother Isaac VanBlaricom. He was 75, she was 67, both were retired.

Elizabeth lived to age 82 or 83, departing this earth in 1959. She was laid to rest at the side of second-husband Jefferson Croy.
