Clyde J. Wilkinson
VETERAN | WORLD WAR II
1920 - 2015

Early Life: Clyde was born on December 15, 1920, in Provo, Utah. His parents were Jay C. and Emma Florence Gadd Wilkinson. He was the oldest of nine sons and one daughter. He grew up working because that is what was required to survive in those times.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: On May, 23, 1940, he married Irene Stella Smith. They were married for 62 years until she passed away in 2002. They were sealed on June 8, 1990, in the Provo Utah LDS Temple. Clyde was the proud father of three daughters: Joan E. Wilkinson O’Dell, Linda Jean Wilkinson Hicks and Le Ann Wilkinson Wood. He served in World War II in the Infantry assigned to the South Pacific. He told of how his unit was the first ever to fly. They flew from Manila into Japan on the day Japan surrendered. He earned the Purple Heart for his valiant service to his country. He worked odd jobs in the shipyard, on a chicken farm, and at the steel plant until he found his ambition as a bricklayer. This career choice created a time in his life where he had to move his family to different job locations with most being in Wyoming. He often quipped, “I moved to Wyoming and all my girls married those damn cowboys.” After ending work as a bricklayer, he went to work for his brother, Glade, at the mink ranch. Like most people of his generation, he was grateful for work and proud to be able to work. That is something to be proud of and the greatest example to others. Clyde enjoyed many things. He loved the outdoor activities of fishing, hunting and camping. He loved to play cards with friends and family and was quite the card shark. He read many Westerns and watched others on the Western channel. Above all, he loved his family. He looked forward to any family party or get together and reunion. Clyde J. Wilkinson AKA: Dad, Brother, Uncle, Grandpa, passed from this life September 17, 2015.
