Donna J. Boring, age 77, Carson Avenue, DuBois, PA died Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

On January 26, a cold wintery day in 1938, a red haired baby girl was born to Harold Edwin and Donnabel Ruth (Smiley) Snyder and they named her Donna Jean.

She attended Sandy Schools, participating in most school activities. In 1956, she graduated second in a class of 60 students. Beginning immediately after high school, she worked in the office of Penn Traffic (Riverside Markets) for 13 years.

On May 19, 1957, Donna married her high school sweetheart, C. Ed Boring. He survives. They had 3 sons, Scott and his wife, Leonie, who lives and teaches in Saudi Arabia and two sons, Eric and C.E. III who preceded her in death. She was an accountant by nature and enjoyed many levels of responsibility in the business world after attending the local campus of Penn State where she majored in Business.

With 3 small children, she was a charter member and active in the DuBois Area Junior Women’s Club. As a Junior Women’s Club project, Donna initiated and organized a day camp for handicapped children. She was listed in the 1970 edition of Outstanding Young Women of America as the founder of Camp Confidence. Even with 3 small children, Donna participated locally in many church, community and Parent-Teacher activities. She had high ethical standards and enjoyed helping people anonymously.

When her children were grown, she was the first woman hired by the PA Department of Revenue to audit corporation income taxes. In that position, she traveled extensively throughout the United States. When she retired from the state, she studied to become a local pastor with the United Methodist Church and a licenses minister with the United Church of Christ. She pastored St. Luke’s/St. Peter’s United Church of Christ charge in DuBois for a year and St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Punxsutawney for 7 years as well as substituting in many area pulpits weekly.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Eric E. Boring, Jr and Miguel Boring. Donna is also survived by Eric’s wife, Cheryl Kurtz and three younger siblings, Harold E. Snyder of San Diego, CA, Carol Rafferty and her husband, Al of DuBois, PA and Sandra Engle and her husband, Doug of Carlisle, PA. Survivors also include an extended family of David, Li, Lucia and Emma Tsoi, who live in France.

As a personal but private dedication to her two deceased sons, she planned solicited funding and landscaped the entrance to Morningside Cemetery where she will be interred.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 1 P.M. from Christ Lutheran Church with Pastor Miller officiating.
