"Crash Kills N.C. Man; Glaring Lights Blamed. William O. Gladden, 68, National City, suffered fatal injuries last night when his automobile catapulted off the highway into a canyon near Ramona, A.E. Gallagher, deputy coroner, reported. A son, Frank Gladden, San Diego, told Gallagher that he was driving in his car behind his father and that the glaring headlights of an oncoming automobile apparently caused the elder Gladden to lose control of his sedan. Gladden died in an ambulance en route to San Diego, Gallagher said."
