Died at his home at 6:30 Tuesday morning. He had made many fights against encroaching disease in the past ten years and had rallied from beds of sickness when it seemed he could not possibly do so and yet at last he left us easliy.
He was one of the few pioneers left that perfectly represented the old guard of white men that first settled this part of Nebraska. Kind, obliging and chartiable he was universally liked and respected by all old and young alike. His passing stands out as a signal warning that there are but a few of his sturdy pioneer class left with us.
Mr. Bohnart was a native of Baden, Germany born in 1843. His father was a blacksmith and followed that trade in his native land until 1856 when with his family of five he emigrated to America locating in Iowa City, Iowa. In 1868, when 25 years of age he married Christina Schroeder, a native of Prussia, Germany. For two years they farmed in Johnson County, Iowa before moving to Victor Precinct in Nuckolls County in 1870 and settled on a homestead two miles east of where the town of Lawrence now stands. The real estate of the deceased consists of some 400 acres of adjoining the old homestead.
Of his family there survives daughters, Mrs. Andrew Hofstetter, Mrs. John Hanzlicek, both of Lawrence, sons Louie of Wood River, Nebr. and Joseph of Linneus, Missouri and a step-son, John Wasia, of St. Ann, Neb.
The first wife of the deceased died April 21, 1900. Albinus Bohnart, son died January 15, 1911. Daughter, Mrs. Lizzie McCarthy died March 24, 1915.
The second wife of deceased was Anna Wiverly, whom he married in November 1904, and who died in January 1916.
Funeral services are being held this morning at Sacred Heart Church after which the remains will be interred in the cemetery which is taken from a part of the old homestead of the deceased.
