Ruth is a daughter of John Sr and Ruth (Awbrey) Gordon. She married Jacob Brown about 1760, they have four children: Jacob Jr 1761-1838, Thomas 1762-1829, Benjamin b.1767 and John Gordon Brown b.1769. Family Records

After Jacob died from a hunting accident on June 28, 1785, Ruth and her family came from South Carolina and claimed his estate, including the land deeded to Nancy Henderson (Jacob's companion). In 1803 Ruth "won it all".
