SHREVEPORT, LA – Joe D. Garner, 83, loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather departed this world surrounded by his loved ones and entered the gates of Heaven on August 18, 2015 at 2pm.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel at 2:30 p.m. officiated by their long-time Pastor and friend, Brother Randy Johnson. Graveside services will follow at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery on Mansfield Rd. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 6-8pm.

He was born on March 29, 1932 in Epps, LA, the youngest of five siblings. He served our country in the Korean War as a member of the US Army and worked as a lineman for Bell South for 32 years before retiring. One of his many loves, was to spend time tending to his garden, so he could share the fruits of his labor with neighbors, friends and family. He was loved and respected by all and often went out of his way to help anyone in need.

Joe, affectionately known by many as “Papa”, was survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gloria Gray Garner, daughter Stephanie Garner Myers and son-in-law, Danny Myers, son Jeff Garner and his wife, Marty, daughter De’Onna Garner, grandchildren Lauryn Parham and her husband, Landon, Jarad Garner and his wife, Loran, Emily Scruggs and her husband, Noah, Judd Myers and his wife, Nicole, Anna Alexander and her husband, Dustin, Jenny Garner, Lindsay Garner, and great- grandson, Jaden Garner, as well as their future great-grandchildren that will live in his spirit. He was preceded in death by their son Daniel Thomas Garner.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made to Countryside Baptist Church, 11800 Mansfield Road, Keithville, LA 71047.
