Estelle Lucille Gardner Boyd, 76, Independence, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at Monterey Park Nursing Home in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Mrs. Boyd was born March 21, 1921 in Cimmaron, Kans. and grew up in St. Joseph, Mo. As a youth, she excelled in athletics, playing on nationally competitive AAU women's softball and basketball teams. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William Riley Boyd, who died earlier this year.

Her survivors include two sons, Bill Boyd, Lee's Summit, and Larry Boyd, Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Fred Gardner, Fort Pierce, Fla., and Ken Gardner, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Lucy Gardner; and three grandsons, Caleb Boyd, Ryan Boyd and Scott Boyd.

Estelle was the daughter of Leonard Asa Gardner and Bessie Lucretia Webb.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 until 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
