WILLIAM R BOYD

William Riley Boyd of Independence died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at Cedar Valley Nursing Home.

Mr. Boyd was born Aug. 10, 1913, in Ozark, Mo. He worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Claycomo, Mo. retiring in 1975. He was a professional baseball player in the Cardinals and Cubs organizations prior to World War II. during the war, he served on PT boat duty in the Pacific.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother John Ray Boyd of Branson, Missouri. His survivors include his wife, Estelle Boyd of Independence; two sons, Bill Boyd, of Lee's Summit, and Larry Boyd, of Memphis, Tenn; three sisters, Lola Stewart, Springfield, MO., Betty Jane Creed, Merriam, Kan. and Mary Jo Jerrill, Oklahoma City; and three grandsons, Caleb Boyd, Ryan Boyd and Scott Boyd.

Mr. Boyd was the son of Samuel Newton Boyd and Lena Lucy Porter.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.
