JAMES GROVER AKERS
James Grover, of Route 1, Uvalda, Ga. (Toombs County) died Wednesday, November 16, 1988, at Clayton County General Hospital after a long illness. He was 70.
A native of Carroll County, Mr. Akers was the son of James W. Akers and the late Mae Irvin Akers.
Mr. Akers lived in Atlanta for many years before moving to Toombs County. While in Atlanta, he was a member of the Bethany Primitive Baptst Church, and had retired from Mathis Dairies there. He was a veteran of World War II.
Surviors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Lee Oneal Akers, of Uvalda; daughter Charlene Rutherford of Riverdale; sons, Cheslie D. Akers of Vidalia, and Clark Jason Akers of Riverdale. Father James W. Akers of Carrollton; brothers Eugene Akers of Atlanta; Rayford Akers and Irvin Akers both of Carrollton; sisters, Opal Mae Akers, Faye Nell Cansler, Remona Almond all of Carrollton; five grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mae Irvin Akers and brother Homer Akers.
Funeral services were conducted on November 18,1988 at 2 p.m. from the Old Line Primitive Baptist Church in Vidalia, with Elder H. D. Fulmer and Elder Manniing Temples officiating. Interment was in the Oneal Family Cemetery in Toombs County.
