Opal Mae Akers, age 94 of Carrollton, passed away Sunday, March 08, 2015. She was born December 13, 1920 in Carrollton, Georgia to the late James Wilson Akers and Ozella Mae Irvin Akers. She retired from Lawler Hosiery Mill and was Primitive Baptist by faith. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters, Faye Nell Marshall and Remona Almond; brothers, Homer Akers, Grover Akers, Irvin Akers, Rayford Akers, and Eugene Akers. Survivors include two brothers-in-law, Gordon Marshall and Leonard Almond; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 3:00 PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Gary Brown and Rev. Mike Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Whooping Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Johnson, Waymon Akers, Winton Akers, Jimmy Yates, Cheslie Akers, James Williams and Charles Smith. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 10, 2015 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton has charge of the arrangements.
