Maxie Lee Broadway Simmons Carter, 91 passed away at Germantown Methodist Hospital August 7, 2015 and will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery.

She graduated from St. Thomas School of Nursing in Nashville and retired from the VA Hospital in Memphis where she met her first husband William T Simmons Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Alverine Hartwell and her two daughters, Barbara Hendrix (Nolen) and Debbie Foster Beasley.

Later in life she married Elmer David 'ED' Carter and enjoyed gardening and traveling.

She leaves behind five grandchildren, Christina Collier (Matthew) of Hoover, Alabama; Kathryn Hendrix of Portland, Oregon; Ashley Dean (Cullen) of Bocas Del Toro, Panama; Kelly Monroe (Lucas) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and David Foster of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; eight great-grandchildren, Palmer, Harper, Elise, Violet, Gabriel, Amanda, Grant, and Elaine--they knew her as "MamaLee."
