Funeral
MRS. SARAH CHENEY
The funeral of the late Mrs. Sarah Cheney, of Wagga, widow of the late Mr. Robert Cheney, senior, formerly of Shockaroo station and later of Humula. took place yesterday, leaving the residence of her son, Mr. Daniel Dennis Cheney, in Peter street, Wagga, at 10.30. The cortege, on reaching Humula, was a very large one, and in cluded relatives and friends of the deceased from Henty, Gamnain, Cara bost, Murruguldrie, Borambola, Coreinbob, Oberne, Humula, and Wagga. The interment was in the family ground in the Church of England Cemetery, Humula, alongside the grave of her husband. The carriers were Messrs. Benjamin Shoemark and William Carroll (sons-in-law), Christopher Cheney (nephew), Patrick Nugent and William T. Nugent. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Daniel Dennis Cheney, James Cheney, Robert Cheney, and Alfred Thomas Cheney (sons), Herbert; Cheney and Dennis Daniel Cheney (grandsons), and Daniel Cheney (nephew), and Thomas Nugent. The Rev. J. Campbell conducted a very impressive burial service, after which he made feeling reference to the long and good life of Mrs. Cheney, and to the relatives and friends who had travelled many miles, from very distant parts, to pay their last sad tribute of respect which showed, he said, the esteem in which she was held. The chief mourners present were the relatives mentioned above, and her four daughters, Mrs. Thomas Wilson, Mrs. William Carroll, Mrs. Benjamin Shoemark, and Mrs. Harry Kendall, also Mr. Dennis M'Namara, her only surviving brother, and. Mrs. D. D. Cheney, daughter-in-law. There were a number of very old friends present at the house (including Mr. Laurence Cox, who had known the deceased for over 60 years) who were unable to be present at Humula. This coffin was very heavily covered with beautiful floral tributes, sent by relatives and friends in various parts of the State. The funeral arrangements were entrusted to Messrs. M'lntosh Bros, of Wagga.
