Son of Robert Cheney and Sarah (McNamara) Cheney.

Married Maria Cheney, his double cousin (they shared the same 4 grandparents).

Together they became the parents of Ernest Alfred Cheney, Violet Lily May (Cheney) Linsell, and Herbert George Cheney.

MR. JAMES CHENEY
The death occurred in Wagga yesterday of Mr. James Cheney, of Ganmain, at the age of 78 years. Mr. Cheney was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cheney, of 'Shockaroo' station, Humula, and had lived all his life in the Wagga. Humula and Ganmain district, and was widely known and esteemed by a wide circle of friends. For the past 30 years he had lived at Ganmain and was mail contracting there for about 20 years. He is survived by his widow and two sons, Messrs. Ernest (Sydney), and Bert (Melbourne); one daughter, Mrs. J. Linsell (Barellan): also four brothers, Messrs. George Cheney (Sydney), D. D. Cheney (Peter street.
Wagga). Robert (Sydney), and Alfred Cheney (Wagga); four sisters. Mrs. Thomas Wilson (Sydney). Mrs. W. Carroll (Sydney), Mrs. Ben Shoemark (Tarcutta). and Mrs. M. Kendall (Tarcutta). The funeral will leave St. John's Church of England, Wagga, at 3 o'clock to-morrew afternoon for the Wagga cemetery.
