Obituary for Richard L. Andrews

Winthrop – Richard L. "Dick" Andrews, 73, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Massena Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

Dick was born on November 11, 1941 in Brasher Falls, son of the late Raymond J. and Gladys A. (Locke) Andrews. He married Sylvia M. Brothers on September 21, 1974 at Knapps Station Church. They shared a blessed union of 35 years with a relationship of love, laughter and understanding. Shirley passed on March 26, 2011.

Dick was a foreman for the St. Lawrence County Highway Department for 30years, retiring in 2011. Dick enjoyed being around people: camping, 4 wheeling, playing shuffleboard or just having a libation with friends. He made many road trips through the Brasher-Winthrop area with his wingman, Andrew at his side. Dick always had a special place in his heart for his family; ready to share a story or spread some humor on any subject.

He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Tracy and Robert Belknap of Winthrop, two grandchildren, Tia Andrews and Andrew Belknap, both of Winthrop, one great granddaughter, Natalya Grace Newton, his brother, Paul Andrews of Buffalo, his sister and brother in law, Joy and Jack Normile of Brasher Falls, sister in law, Shirley Andrews of Potsdam and a brother in law, Elmer Votra of Canton.

In following Dick's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. His preference was to have a Celebration Gathering at his home, to toast and tell stories; Which will be held Saturday, August 8th from 1pm till?.

Those wishing to express an act of kindness in Dick's honor, please consider donations to the Center for Cancer Care, 50 Leroy Street, Potsdam, NY 13667 or Tri Town Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 238, Brasher Falls, NY 13613.
