John Q. married Mary Elizabeth Young (1862-1944). Their children included Orpha Edith married to Lemon Monroe Coleman, Hannah Ethel, James Irvin married to Florence Hawk and Ida Mae Parsons, and an infant b.1886. He was the son of Richard and Martha Catharine Kennedy Adams.
