Note~Some of the above names and birthdates are from the Rootsweb tree of Charles Ely.

Martha was a 69 year old widow when she died from endocarditis (heart inflammation).

Martha's great-grandfather Robert Adams (1753 Boston MA-1810 Westmoreland Co. PA) served in the Revolutionary War. He was also a justice of the peace. According to the Rootsweb tree of Brenda Gallagher, Robert was the son of Henry Adams (1726 Boston MA-1785 PA), who other sources say was a fifer in Captain John Wagner's Company of the 4th Battalion from Northumberland County Militia. Some trees say Robert's parents were Elijah and Hannah Adams of Pennsylvania. Martha's great-grandmother was Keziah Blair (1758 - 1842). Brenda states that Robert came to eastern Pennsylvania from Rhode Island to fight Indians. Another post says he came to stay with a relative, General Nathaniel Greene (also from Rhode island). Robert mustered into the 8th PA Regiment, Continental Line at Pittsburgh in July of 1776. They were ordered to New Brunswick, New Jersey on November 23, 1776 to join General Washington. On December 5, 1776 the battalion was styled the 5th Battalion of the Pennsylvania Troop in the Continental Service. The regiment was attacked and suffered losses from Cornwallis at Round Brook, New Jersey. The regiment also served at Germantown and Brandywine. Robert mustered out in April 1779 as a corporal. Note~ No record of service can be found for Robert or his father Henry on the D.A.R. Patriot/Ancestor list. However, he appears as a listed patriot with the Sons of the American Revolution.
