Clarrisa Sportsman was the daughter of William and Sarah (Arnold) Sportsman.

Clarrisa married George Ashby on March 2, 1826 in Chariton County, Missouri by Daniel Ashby J.P.

To this union nine children were born Catherine, Benjamin, Sarah, John, Mary, George, Andrew, Richard, William.

1850 Census Brunswick, Chariton County, Missouri.
1860 Census Brunswick, Chariton County, Missouri.
1870 Census Brunswick, Chariton County, Missouri.

George Ashby purchased the following land in Chariton County:
7/30/1833 80 acres E2NW Township 54N, Range 20W 5th Meridian
10/1/1835 40 acres SESW Township 54N, Range 20W 5th Meridian
6/15/1836 40 acres SWNE Township 54N, Range 20W 5th Meridian

George and Clarrisa are buried on their land in a small cemetery named Brush Creek Cemetery. Their cemetery stones were just discovered in 2014.

Aged 61 years 2 months 13 days.

This previously unrecorded cemetery was given its' name in 2014 by the Chariton County Historical Society based upon its' location on Brush Creek Lane in T54 R20 S27. This land was patented by George Ashby in 1833.
