Another name was taken this week from the fast-diminishing list of Terry pioneers when Emanuel Falkenstern, age 64, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 2, at the Terry Lutheran hospital following a heart attack.
The deceased was an active civic worker in the community during the past 30 years, and was a past president of the Terry Chamber of Commerce, and also served as an alderman on the City Council for several years. He was a member of the Congregational church of Fallon.

Emanuel Falkenstern was born December 19, 1886 in Neukron, South Russia, to Regina and Fred Falkenstern. He cam to the US at the age of 18 years and located at Jamestown ND, moving to Gackle Nd, about a year later where he started his first blacksmith shop.

In 1909 he was united in marriage to Mary Brosz and they resided in ND until 1914 when they moved to Watkins where he farmed until 1921, when he moved to Terry and started in the blacksmith and implement business here.
There were nine children, one dying at birth and one son, Aldo, passing away at the age of 10 months, born to this union.

He was preceded in death by his wife in February of 1945. He later married Christina Flaig of Fredonia ND,in October of 1946.

The deceased is survived by his widow; four sons, Emanuel of Hungry Horse, Oswald J of San Jose CA, Arnold and Edwin of Terry; three daughters, Mrs Adele Jens of Terry, Mrs Edna Leach of Kalispell, and Mrs Clara Glantz of Billings; and six grandchildren. Together with the immediate family there are also six stepchildren, Florence Flaig and Mrs Ann Dokter of Fargo ND, Emanuel and Benjamin of Fredonia ND, Mabel Flaig of Jamestown, and Mrs Ruth Smith of Meadville PA.
