Harold L. Jensen, 79, of Kearney, Formerly of Maxwell, died on July 18, 2015 at the Mother Hull Home in Kearney. Memorial graveside services will be Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, NE. Rev. Ben Eickhoff will officiate. Military rites at graveside will be provided by the North Platte American Legion Post #163 and the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney are in charge of arrangements.

Harold was born on January 6, 1936 near Maxwell, NE to John S. and Viola (Nelsen) Jensen. He was the third of four children. He graduated from Brady High School in 1954, salutatorian of his class. After high school he received a teaching certificated from Kearney State Teacher’s College. He taught for 2 years at rural Nebraska schools. In 1958 he was drafted into the United States Army. He went to basic training, after which he was a surveyor. He farmed/ranched south of Maxwell, NE in the Cottonwood Canyon on the home place for many years. Harold took up residence at Cherry Hills Assisted Living Facility in Valentine, NE in April of 2010. He enjoyed his time there until transferring to Mother Hull Home November of 2013.

Harold was an avid fisherman taking every opportunity to through a line in. He loved the outdoors. He also ran a trap line for several years in Cottonwood Canyon. His second love, next to fishing, was cards. He was a wicked pitch and cribbage player up until his dying day. He was even known to play for “quarters” at Cherry Hills Assisted Living Facility.

He was preceded in death by parents, John and Viola, sister Ruby and her husband Bob Sailor, and nephew Dennis Dailey.

Surviving relatives include his Sisters: Ila Dailey and her husband Earl of Arnold NE; Margie Miller and her husband Gayle of Kearney, NE. Nephew Robert Sailor and his wife Deb of Maxwell, NE, Niece Annette Miller and her husband Micheal Wescott of Kearney, NE, and Nephew Douglas Miller and his wife Rachel of Tucson, AZ. He is also survived by great nieces and nephews: Brent Dailey, Steven Dailey, Dannette Dailey, Rocky and his wife Candy and children Layton and Taren Sailor, Lexi Wescott, and Ila and Luca Miller.
