Velvet Sartori Taylor

Seaford - Velvet Sartori Taylor, 49, of Seaford passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 23, 2015. Velvet was a strong positive influence on many people including friends, neighbors, coworkers and relatives. Her message was always hopeful, happy and encouraging of others.

Velvet was born in Sharon, CT and was the oldest daughter of Velvet and Ray Sartori who still reside in Dover Plain, NY. She has resided in Seaford for the last 25 years. She worked as civil employee Contract Specialist for the DOD Aviation Applied Technology Directorate at Fort Eustis.

In 1986, Velvet married Travis Taylor. Travis is a retired officer of the United States Coast Guard. The couple moved to Seaford when Travis accepted an assignment at the Yorktown Coast Guard Base. Amanda, born in 1987 and Jon, born in 1991 added to the family. The military lifestyle provided Velvet and Travis many opportunities for travel including a three year assignment in Rotterdam, The Netherlands from 2002 to 2005. The family flourished in the military and reflected the best qualities of this lifestyle.Velvet especially enjoyed the role as a military wife, making it a means of personal development and progress.

Velvet had an ability to make others comfortable. With friendly talks she was able to help others generate ideas, calm troubled moments or explore options. She was reliable and trusted by many for her advice and guidance. The best advice was typically accompanied by laughter, smiles and Velvet's sensible reassuring contribution to the plans. She could make even the most oppressive situations seem more palatable and acceptable. Most friends will miss this the most.

Velvet is survived by her husband of 28 years, Travis Taylor; a daughter, Amanda Rae Taylor of Yorktown, and a son LTJG. Jon Travis Taylor (Apprentice Marine Inspector) of New Orleans, LA. She is also survived by her parents Ray and Velvet Sartori; two sisters, Jessie Rundall (Jimmy) of Kent, CT and Sara Taylor (Kevin) of Dover Plains; a brother Jason Sartori (Tonya) of Dover Plains, and several nieces and nephews, Dylan, Casey, Lincoln, Jaxon, and Melanie.

Friends and family will gather from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 28, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. A celebration of her life will follow the visitation at the River Walk Restaurant in Yorktown on Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
