Early Life: Geneal was born on July 8, 1937, in Delta, Utah, to Pat Lorenzo Barney and Alta Johnson Barney.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: On September 6, 1956, she married Milton DeVerl Cutler in the Salt Lake Temple. Theirs was truly a lifelong love story. Geneal's life was defined by beauty, kindness, learning and faith. She was a committed and creative mother, grandmother and homemaker, who blessed her loved ones' lives with her service and her teaching. She taught them how to work hard, how to study, how to play and how to celebrate life's milestones. Geneal cherished music and excelled as a solo soprano and as a member of many vocal groups and choirs. She was an expert quilter who has left an inheritance of her beautiful original artwork. She made countless friends as she pursued her love of music and quilting. She joyed in her tenure as the President of the Utah Valley Quilt Guild and in her opportunities to mentor others in her home and through church service. Geneal sought learning her entire life; she loved to read and travel. She and DeVerl traveled around the world, making many wonderful memories and friends. She graduated with a B.A. from Brigham Young University in 2011, at age 73. She received a spontaneous standing ovation when she crossed the stage in the Marriott Center as those in attendance recognized her achievement. Geneal was a powerful example of compassion and charity; she always responded quietly and generously to needs in her neighborhood and community. She had an unwavering testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served a mission with DeVerl as her companion in the Pennsylvania Harrisburg Mission from 2002 to 2003. Geneal Barney Cutler passed away on July 11, 2015, due to unexpected heart failure.
Survived By: Her four children: Richard, Houston, TX; Sheri (Mark) Skiba, Sammamish, WA; Mike (Chris), Pocatello, ID; and Susan (Jim) Egbert, Sandy, UT; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, O. Pat (Betty) Barney and Allen (Marilyn) Barney.
Preceded In Death By: Her beloved sweetheart, DeVerl; her parents; her sisters, Verna and Shirley; and her brother, Darwon.
