Shirley Barney Clark, eternal companion, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, & friend, returned to the arms of her Savior and many anxiously awaiting family members on January 17, 2008. Shirley was born August 5, 1927 in Sutherland, Utah, to Alta Johnson and Pat Lorenzo Barney. She was raised here with her three brothers and two sisters.

As a young girl, she met the love of her life, Larry Noel Clark. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple June 5, 1943. Theirs is a true love story that has spanned seven decades and now will never end. Larry and Shirley made their home in several places over the years & always made good friends and touched lives wherever they went. She was a devoted mother to their two children who both made their mother beam with pride and joy, not only by the good lives they've lived and wonderful people they are, but also the many grandchildren they've given her. Shirley was a very active member of the LDS church, serving in several callings including Primary president at age 23, three stints as Relief Society President, and numerous other capacities, always marked by her love and laughter that she so willingly shared. Shirley also spent countless hours doing Family History work, and even served as a Family History missionary with her husband in the New York Rochester Mission.

She also served as a temple worker in the Provo and Manti Temples. Her testimony of the Savior shone in all aspects of her life. Shirley enjoyed the time she spent as an employee at the LDS Church office building and BYU campus. She also thoroughly enjoyed life with a love for learning, reading, music & art, gardening & homemaking, hitting the road in the camper, and of course, spending time with friends, family and her sweetheart. She also prized the letters, gifts, and phone calls sent from family members spread across the globe, whom she missed so much. Humble & wise, she was an amazing example of Christ-like love, always making people around her feel valued. She was patient in her afflictions and often had her doctors laughing before they were in the room for more than two minutes. She was eager to be valiant in all areas of her life, and she truly accomplished this goal. She taught us so much. We love her to pieces and she will be greatly missed, but we know we will see her again. Deep and heartfelt thanks goes to our Gramps for taking such dedicated care of our Beautiful Grandma through these many years of illness. Shirley was welcomed to the other side by her parents, a brother, Darwin; and a sister, Verna Taylor.

She leaves behind her best friend & sweetheart, Larry; children, Kirsten & Ray Jenkins, South Jordan; Larry McTaine & Colleen Clark, New Ireland, P.N.G.; siblings Pat & Betty Barney, Geneal & DeVerl Cutler, Allen & Marilyn Barney; 11 grandkids; 31 great-grandkids; one great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, January 23, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at the Jordan Oaks 5th Ward, 3760 West 9380 South. A Viewing will be Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Wednesday from 9-9:45 a.m. prior to Services.
Interment: Spring City Cemetery.
