My wife, our mother and grandmother, Neva Jewel(Nightengale) Wedel, 77, of Ringwood, was born on June 8, 1938 near Isabella, Oklahoma to John J. and Eva Wedel Nightengale. The Lord released her from her weary body on July 7, 2015 at the Fairview Fellowship Home, Fairview, Oklahoma. She reached the age of seventy-seven years, one month.

Mom’s childhood was spent near Isabella, Oklahoma. She would speak fondly of growing up near the railroad track with 11 brothers and sisters. She attended school in Isabella, walking over a mile both ways. On cold mornings, her dad would load the children in the grader and give them a ride.

On November 17, 1956, she married Glenn Wedel in Enid, Oklahoma. We children loved to hear the stories about their courtship. Dad would often exaggerate just to get a reaction from Mom. She still had the first Zero candy bar wrapper that Dad gave her at the beginning of their life-long love affair.

Mom was converted and baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on February 20th, 1974 by Minister Milton Boehs after her and Dad decided to attend a revival meeting being held there. Several years later she reconsecrated her life to God, and Dad was baptized at the same time. She never wavered in her commitment to God and His Church. Jesus was her life-line in her recent months of illness.

Mom loved to have a good time and enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She showed us her love by making each one of us a warm and cozy comforter in her retirement years. Her comforters were the coveted prize at the annual Wedel reunions. Another one of her joys was time spent with her six sisters. They would often meet for coffee or lunch. One other highlight in her life was the years she worked at the Fairview Fellowship Home as Laundry Supervisor.

We will miss her smile, her phone calls, and just having her as our Mom.

Those left to cherish her memory are: her husband, Glenn of 58 years; Her children and grandchildren; Son James & wife Barbara Wedel and their children Kayla, Jamie, & Jenni; Son Mark & wife Becky Wedel and their children Perry & Jessie, Lacy Jo & Jon, Laici Rae & Clayton, Kaylynn & Duffey, Daili & Nathan; Daughter Susan & husband Vernon Martin and their sons Cameron, Blake, & Bryson; Daughter Barbara Wedel & Allen Burton, with children Tyra & Zane; Daughter Julie Wedel, with children Brenden & Josie; and 7 great-grandchildren. Also, four brothers; Paul Nightengale, Floyd & Carolyn Nightengale, Roger & Lori Nightengale, Andrew & Paula Nightengale; three sisters; Waunita Koehn, Shirlene Koehn, Lauretta & Victor Koehn, and brother-in-law Richard Koehn. Dad’s brothers and sister were also special to Mom; J.D. & Anna Mae Wedel, Bill & Donna Wedel, Gene & Dorie Wedel, Jerry & Ruth Wedel, and Darlene & Verland Holub. Also numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.

Those preceding her in death are her parents, her parents-in-law, 5 sisters and 4 brother.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, 11:00 a.m., July 11, 2015, at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Reverend Randy Levings will officiate. Burial for family and friends will be at 2:30 pm at the Oakdale Cemetery, Southwest of Ringwood on County Road 264.
