He was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Okeene to John J. and Eva Wedel Nightengale and died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, in Enid.
He married Carol Anne Robbins Feb. 19, 1950, in Isabella. She died in November 2008.
He was a heavy equipment operator for nearly 60 years and moved across the central and western United States. His projects included missile silos, dams, mines, pipelines and rebuilding of highways. He retired in 2002.
He was a member of the Latter-day Saints.
Surviving are one daughter, Laurel "Lolly" Rich of Cleo Springs; four sons, Johnny Nightengale of Clinton, Kelly Nightengale and Wayne Nightengale, both of Cleo Springs, and Leslie Nightengale of Aline; four brothers, Paul Nightengale and Roger Nightengale, both of Ringwood, Floyd Nightengale of Fairview and Andrew "A.J." Nightengale of Enid; five sisters, Vivian Schmidt and Lauretta Koehn, both of Fairview, Waunita Koehn of Okeene, Shirlene Koehn of Mayfield, Ky., and Jewel Wedel of Ringwood; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Carol Anne, he was preceded in death by one daughter, one granddaughter, two sisters and five infant siblings.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, cancer division.
