Robert "Bob" Paris Hines, Jr, of Shawnee, KS, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Bob was born March 11, 1933 in Jonesville, VA, to Robert and Lola Hines. From 1953 - 1955, Bob served his country honorably as a Corporal in the US Army. While in the Army, he met his bride, Nancy Jackson, on a blind date and were married October 10, 1954 in Westmorland, KS. After completing his service to country, Bob attended Central Tech Electronics School, where he studied television and radio electronics. During this time, Bob and Nancy welcomed their first son, Keith Dwayne Hines, in 1955. The family moved to Jonesville, VA and opened an electronics repair shop. After several years in Virginia, they moved to the Kansas City area where Bob became a dedicated Western Auto employee. A second son, Timothy Ray Hines, was born in 1959. Bob quickly climbed the ranks at Western Auto, becoming a manager known for reviving failing Western Auto stores throughout the Midwest, including positions in Savannah and St. Joseph, MO. Alan Wayne Hines, the third son, joined the family in 1967. Bob was an active member of Merriam Christian Church and served in the roles of Board Chairman and Elder. He was a prayer warrior and spent hours daily reading the Bible and praying for his family and friends. He loved the Lord and his country, and was proud to raise the American flag at his home every day. As a young man, he joined the Moila Shrine in St. Joseph, Mo and Bob advanced in rank as years progressed, culminating in the high and respected honor of 33rd Degree in Scottish Rite. He was also proud to be a two time Commander in the Legion of Honor, and spent many happy years traveling to parades, driving his specialty parade cars, with Nancy by his side. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Hines, and his three sons, Dwayne Hines (Laura,) Tim Hines (Jenny,) and Alan Hines (Beverly,) 21 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Cecile Corbin and Jean Scott (Bernard,) 2 sisters in law, Judy Hines and Judy Hines, and brothers in law and sisters in law, Derek and Ernestine Jackson and Virginia and Bob Rezak. He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings, Lucille Burgin, Eula Walters, Gladys Orr, Verna Gibson, Vivian Garrett, Ray Hines, Jack Hines, Nina Pierce, Alice Walters and Beulah True. Visitation will be Monday, July, 13th at 10:30 am at Merriam Christian Church, 9401 Johnson Drive, Merriam, KS 66203, with funeral service to follow at 11:30 am. Burial at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children , 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
